About Syracuse, New York

Syracuse is the county seat of Onondaga County, New York, and is the state's fifth largest city. The population is about 145,000, with 660,000 people in the metro area.

The city has functioned as a major crossroads over the last two centuries, first between the Erie Canal and its branch canals, then of the railroad. Syracuse is located at the intersection of Interstates 81 and 90, and its airport is the largest in the region. Syracuse is home to Syracuse University, the Upstate Medical University and Hospital, The SUNY College of Environmental Science and Forestry, LeMoyne College, and other colleges and professional schools.
